We manufacture material that measures only 20 microns in thickness and have yet to find a reliable thickness measurement system to use in production, offline. We currently use a well-known digital micrometer that reads to 0.1µm, but has been giving us poor resolution. Can anyone recommend a device? We are considering 100kpa pressure on a small footprint, but I am open to non-contact systems.
Thanks.
Thickness measurements
It will be a best guess without knowing what type of material you make and the sample size and shape. But here goes nothing!
Ultrasonic gages are good for rolls of material or moving mateiral for in process checks. They are not very accurate and considering the material thickness, they might not be an option.
My personal favorite is an indicator on a stand. The base of the stand can be granite or metal, smooth or grooved, square or round, large or small. The indicator should be either digital or similiar to the Mahr Millimess which is more of a comparator.
My company offers consultanting services for gage recommendations, etc. Please visit the website @ www.metrologyrx.com and contact me if you have any further questions.
Micron thickness
Have you considered a SuperMic ?
