Committed to Editorial Excellence

by Scott Paton

If you're a careful reader of Quality Digest, you may have noticed that we've added new staff members and restructured our editorial responsibilities during the last few months. We've made these changes to cover the quality world in more depth and to provide you with the latest quality news as quickly as possible.

We began by creating an entirely new editorial position: technology editor. Our long-time news editor, Dirk Dusharme, now focuses on the technological side of quality. He continues to expand our coverage of software for quality and the inspection, testing and measuring devices market.

Dirk's 10 years' experience working in the semiconductor and electronics industry plus a degree in journalism create a unique editor; he writes well about complex and sometimes confusing issues.

Elizabeth Larson now writes news stories for our News Digest section as well as daily news stories for our Web site, Quality Digest Online. As our news editor, Elizabeth brings her strong writing skills and investigative style to Quality Digest readers. She earned a master's degree in classics from Cambridge University and has worked in the book publishing industry. Elizabeth's global perspective and creativity combine to produce fresh, innovative news stories and editorial ideas.

Our newest editor, Taran March, adds strong copy-editing and research skills to our editorial staff. Prior to joining Quality Digest, Taran worked as the executive editor for Moon Publications, a travel book publisher. She also writes a column for The Synthesis, a weekly newsmagazine published here in Chico, California. In addition, she has written for Smart TV, Videomaker and The San Francisco Review of Books. A true wordsmith, Taran vows to leave no fact unchecked or modifier dangling in her copy-editing work.

Of course, our managing editor, Marion Harmon, continues in her role of coordinating, editing and keeping all of us in line despite late hours and crazy deadlines. Her commitment to editorial excellence is simply incredible. Never content to let something slide in the face of a deadline, Marion keeps the "quality" in Quality Digest.

We've made these editorial changes because the quality world continues to transform. To keep pace with the ever-changing face of quality, you need a magazine that keeps pace as well. Our commitment to providing readers with the best-possible quality information remains constant. As new standards are introduced, new leaders emerge and new software is developed, Quality Digest will continue to give you the information advantage.

Of course, to serve our readers best, we need your input. We value every comment we receive from readers, be it a compliment, criticism, suggestion or complaint. Often the articles in Quality Digest evolve as a direct result of reader feedback. Many of our readers contribute articles, too.

If you have a suggestion, complaint, compliment or editorial idea, send it to me via e-mail at spaton@qualitydigest.com or by regular mail at 40 Declaration Drive, Suite 100, Chico, CA  95973.
