The Way of Adventure
by Jeff Salz, Ph.D.
(John Wiley & Sons, $24.95)

This best book of the month mixes engrossing true adventure with a plan for building a fully realized career. Salz teaches six steps to inject adventure into your work and life: leap before you look, aim higher than Everest, give it all you've got, work some magic, keep on your bearing and enjoy the view. He illustrates each with a generous dose of travelogue drawn from his own trips to exotic locales, including Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and Nepal.

The Problem Solving Journey
by Christopher W. Hoenig
(Perseus Press, $20)

To give readers a dependable, repeatable process, Hoenig reduces the problem-solving process to six "essential skills" (generate the mindset, know the territory, build the relationships, manage the journeys, create the solutions and deliver the results). The paperback includes plenty of interesting examples and action tips.

It's the Fast that Eat the Slow
by Jason Jennings and Laurence Haughton
