The panel’s goal is to compile all existing standards and guidelines relating to identity theft into a single resource, and to identify areas where they should be updated or a new standard is needed.
Linda Parnes, director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission, will be a featured speaker at the event. Topics to be addressed include data-breach notification and data custody best practices; challenges of identity authentication; industry, consumer and government countermeasures to data abuse; and legislative and regulatory developments. The conference will be sponsored by the American National Standards Institute and the Better Business Bureau.
