Greetings from your new Chairperson! It’s my pleasure to lead the Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) into a new year. 2009 is an exciting time for CMS, as this year marks the 25th anniversary of our annual conference, the Coordinate Metrology Society Conference, better known as CMSC. This conference has become a staple for those involved with the acquisition, analysis, and utilization of high-precision, three-dimensional data typically acquired by portable devices. The applications and uses of accurate 3-D data are ever-increasing as we rely on digital data to control our processes.
The annual CMSC is your opportunity to tell us about your applications, uses, and research in the field of 3-D metrology. Uses of tight-tolerance 3-D data range from all areas of fabrication and manufacturing, to historical preservation and investigation, to alignment and monitoring of large structures, just to name a few. Presenting at CMSC provides recognition from your industry peers as well as your company colleagues and management.
Being accepted as an author and presenter at CMSC facilitates the highly coveted opportunity to be published in our biannual publication, The Journal of the CMS. The journal is disseminated to more than 13,000 readers via direct mail and distribution at related conferences. The esteem of becoming a published author in a professional journal adds value to your list of career accomplishments.
A call for papers will be distributed shortly after the beginning of the year. Please take the time to read the material and respond with an abstract detailing your projects involving digital 3-D data. The Coordinate Metrology Society is comprised of you, our members, and we rely on you to continue sharing your experiences. You can always write to me at chairman@cmsc.org and tell me your thoughts on how we can make the CMSC a better venue for you. I look forward to hearing from you!
