This transit, modified by A.N. Brunson to operate in the extreme cold, accompanied Admiral Richard Byrd to the South Pole during his 1939 expedition. Thanks to Brunson’s engineering, Brunson received a telegram back from the explorer indicating that this transit worked perfectly while others froze up.
