‘Tech leaders issue warning: AI raises risk of extinction”1 comes across as another version of science fiction stories that have been around for decades about humans creating something greater than themselves that finally destroys them. Although it’s obviously risky to allow a computer to control weapons, money, medical records, or anything else without responsible human supervision, even the most intelligent imaginable computer is limited if its sole interface with the human world consists of a video monitor and a keyboard.

What Are the Real Risks of Artificial Intelligence?

The real risks of artificial intelligence will spring from AI being provided poorly thought out AI performance metrics.  Most performance metrics already cause unintended consequences by themselves.  Now imagine the issues in effective design of simultaneous systems of performance metrics to be used by AI.  A key part of beneficial AI is succeeding at this complex task.

Spot-on

An excellent reminder that AI is only as honest as the person using it.  It is but the latest technology to be used by scammers and those who want to sow discord. 

I particulary resonate with the statement that 'Humans are, however, ultimately responsible for what their computers do. “The computer did it” isn’t an excuse for substandard or dysfunctional performance.'
