(FARO: Lake Mary, FL) -- An emerging trend in laser scanning and building information modeling (BIM) comes from the adoption of repetitive scanning or ongoing project scanning. Here scans are taken at the very inception of the project, integrated into the model, and are continually taken to update the model as the project is constructed. So what’s the future of laser scanning in the BIM world? Laser scanning is the “truth serum” in the BIM workflow. It allows precise 3-D measurements to be integrated as a component of the actual design/construct process. And as the cost of scanning and processing becomes more affordable, the integration of laser scanning and BIM will increase tremendously.
