(ANSI: New York) -- During the month of September, the American National Standards Institute is partnering with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in support of National Preparedness Month. ANSI joins nearly 1,600 national, regional, state, and local organizations in an effort to convince the public of the importance of emergency preparedness, and to promote individual action throughout the year.
Now in its fourth year as a partnering organization, ANSI’s Homeland Security Standards Panel will hold its sixth plenary meeting on October 3–4, 2007, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The program will highlight standards for preparedness, risk, response, and recovery, as well as current domestic and international standardization initiatives.
The plenary will be held in conjunction with the October 4–5 ISO/IEC/ITU World Standards Cooperation Workshop on Transit Security, which will address the strategic role for international standards and conformity assessment programs in the area of public transit security, encompassing urban, suburban and regional commuter transportation by bus, rail, and the land side of urban ferry operations.
