(ASQ: Milwaukee) -- H. James Harrington was honored by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) when it presented him with the Ishikawa Medal on May 20, 2012. He was selected to receive the medal in recognition of his many contributions in promoting the understanding of process improvement and employee involvement in quality at the local, national, and international levels.

Harrington worked for IBM for 40 years and then as a principal with the Ernst & Young consulting firm for another 10 years. He has also served as CEO of two successful companies. He is a past president and chairman of the board for ASQ and the International Academy for Quality. He has written more than 35 books and conducted hundreds of lectures related to performance improvement. He is presently the CEO of Harrington Institute and president of the Walter L Hurd Foundation.
The Ishikawa Medal was established by ASQ in 1993 in honor of Kaora Ishikawa and is presented yearly to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in improving the human aspects of quality.
