Spearheaded by Alcoa and Rockwell Automation, UCLA and the University of Texas, and the National Institute of Science and Technology—among many others—the SMLC was launched in July 2012 to drive improved manufacturing efficiencies, reduce waste, and integrate manufacturing intelligence in real time across an entire production operation.
ASQ, which has been indirectly involved in SMLC initiatives for months, recognizes that SMLC efforts align well with ASQ’s long-standing role in manufacturing. ASQ subject experts hope to assist the SMLC develop workforce training, tools, and innovations to implement smart manufacturing technologies.
