TÜV America Inc. recently announced that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has approved an expansion of the registrar’s Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory scope of accreditation. OSHA approved the addition of 44 standards to TÜV America’s NRTL scope, expanding its accreditation to 61 standards and making the registrar qualified to certify a majority of consumer electronic products. Newly added standards include commercial electric cooking appliances, humidifiers, heating and cooling equipment, microwave cooking appliances, refrigerating units, and electric fans.
As an NRTL, TÜV America is authorized by OSHA to certify certain equipment and materials as being safe to use in U.S. workplaces.
“TÜV America’s new scope enables us to provide NRTL services to previously unreachable markets,” says Ulf Schmidt, TÜV America director of product safety. “Combined with our engineers’ expertise, availability and approachability, our scope enhances our commitment to being the certification organization of choice in the United States.”
