(FUJIFILM NDT Systems Inc.: Stamford, Conn.) -- Prescale, a thin flexible sensor film, instantly captures and permanently records pressure distribution and magnitude between any two contacting surfaces. The film enables the analysis of the dynamic behavior of individual particles and its ability to detect flaws and pressure inconsistencies. Makers of molds around the world use it extensively for many different materials. The papermaking, print, and converting industries use it for dynamic and static nip pressure readings along their rollers to adjust load.
Its ability to detect and assess surface-contact inconsistencies has made it a quality control/quality assurance tool that enables enhanced yields and reduced scrap rates.
Prescale is thin enough to conform to a curvaceous surface and can be cut by the user or laser cut to fit specific patterns or dimensions. The sensor measures pressure from 2–43,200 psi (0.14–3,000 kg/cm2). When placed between two contacting surfaces, the film instantaneously and permanently changes color. This color change is directly proportional to the actual pressure applied. Precise pressure magnitude is easily determined by comparing the resultant color intensity to a color correlation chart (conceptually similar to interpreting litmus paper). No training or instrumentation is required.
