A new book reveals the secrets of making quality the center of manufacturing through the eyes of a struggling ice cream company. The Ice Cream Maker (Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, 2005), by Subir Chowdhury, tells the fictional story of Peter Delvecchio, the overwhelmed plant manager of Dairy Cream, an ice cream manufacturing company. Dairy Cream’s sales are way down and it’s on the verge of closure when Delvecchio reaches out to Mike McMaster of Natural Foods, who shows Delvecchio how to turn things around using the LEO concept—listen, enrich and optimize. The concept illustrates how to build quality in every aspect of an organization.
The book is written in an easy-to-read format and includes in-depth insight into what businesses must do to instill quality into their culture and into every product and service they provide. Chowdhury, chairman and CEO of ASI Consulting Group, is the author of The Power of Six Sigma (Dearborn Trade, 2001) and Design for Six Sigma (Prentice Hall PTR, 2002), among other bestselling titles.
