(Harrington Institute: Los Gatos, CA) -- H. James Harrington, a past president and chairman of the board for the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the International Academy for Quality, was presented the Shanghai Magnolia Quality Special Contribution Award for his 30 years of support to the quality movement in China.

Harrington first started sharing quality methodologies with the China Association for Quality in 1981, during his role as chairman of the International Chapter of ASQ. He first toured Mainland China lecturing on quality in 1983. Prior to 1981, Harrington had made many visits to Taiwan lecturing on quality. He made many trips to the various provinces in China, lecturing on quality systems and teaching classes on quality. Harrington has written more than 35 books, and many of them have been translated into Chinese.

The first of its kind, this award was presented to Harrington on Nov. 1, 2011, at the Shanghai Association for Quality and International Academy for Quality conference.
