The U.S. Election Assistance Commission recently accredited SysTest Labs and iBeta Software Quality Assurance to certify and test voting systems software and equipment against the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines. The VVSG are federal standards developed in 2002 by the Technical Guidelines Development Committee, whose members came from several standards boards. The National Institute of Standards and Technology chairs the committee, which includes representatives of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American National Standards Institute.
Both labs were evaluated by NIST’s National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program, under which laboratories are required to meet ISO/IEC 17025.
iBeta and SysTest will evaluate electromechanical and electronic voting system equipment using VVSG 2005 until VVSG 2007 is implemented.
