(IEEE: New York) -- Recent events have highlighted the importance of risk-based decision making. Modern systems are becoming more complex and the economic, safety, and other consequences of a system failure are more serious. Volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) are challenging all organizations and engineers. Managing the risks of disruptive events is becoming a critical focus for business and society. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-USA’s five-session webinar series, which runs from July through December 2011, focuses on risk-based problem solving and decision making, and the application of risk management standards and practices to public safety and critical infrastructure protection (CIP). The objective is to provide relevant and directly applicable information that technology and operational professionals can use in their jobs and to enhance their long-term employability.
