The Canadian Parliament will provide nearly $1 million to train companies in the rural Northumberland region in quality improvement skills. The skills development support will be funded by the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, a $10 million initiative designed to support economic renewal in eastern Ontario and to make companies there more competitive. The types of skills development to be provided include lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, flow automation and ERPII software and safety training. Companies participating in the training include Collins & Aikman, Ready Print, Coveright Surfaces Canada, Country Hearth, Unitrak and General Electric Corp.
“This is but one area that the Eastern Ontario Development Fund has contributed to in sustaining and supporting economic renewal in eastern Canada,” says Doug Pink, vice chairman of the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corp. “We look forward to many more exciting announcements concerning the EODF and how local communities and organizations in Northumberland are benefiting from it.”
