UltraCell, a producer of fuel-cell technology, will use the latest in lean manufacturing processes at its recently opened manufacturing and corporate facility..Located in Livermore, California, the facility will enable the company to convert from prototype manufacturing to volume production. It’ll also house the production line for UltraCell’s XX25 methanol fuel cell. Introduced as a prototype in August, the product for portable electronic devices has twice the energy density of lithium batteries for longer missions, weighs only 40 oz and is about the size of a paperback novel.
UltraCell also reports that its new headquarters will use lean principles to focus on enhancing quality, efficiency and delivery while reducing costs through minimizing nonvalue-added activities in design, production, supply-chain management and customer service.
