Twenty-three soldiers, airmen, and civilian employees of the Georgia department of defense have graduated from the inaugural course of a hands-on, continuous process improvement program called lean Six Sigma (LSS). The graduates all earned their Green Belt certification after completing four weeks of combined classroom and hands-on project training.
“The objective is to observe and analyze processes and figure out how to do them better,” says Major Larry Deaton, the deployment director with the Georgia department of defense.
Deaton says he defines “better” processes as those having less waste, improved output, increased cost efficiency, and higher customer satisfaction.
During the training, students worked on individual LSS projects, which identified specific opportunities for process improvement within the Georgia department of defense and National Guard. Upon completion of the training, each team presented their projects and their findings to the class.
