Known for engaging employees to solve problems and achieve efficiencies, WorkOut is a process that relies on employees to identify and solve problems in less than 90 days. The tool was developed and gained popularity in the early days of Jack Welch’s tenure at General Electric during the 1980s.

The process was quickly overtaken by lean manufacturing and Six Sigma. While some organizations adopted a culture of continuous improvement, others struggled to commit the resources and discipline necessary to make lasting change.
