A civilian worker at the Corpus Christi Army Depot was recently recognized for his supervision of a Six Sigma project that dramatically improved maintenance work on Army aircraft.
George Kunkle III, the depot’s process optimization manager, received the first-ever Joint Depot Maintenance Excellence Award for his work as process manager for the Air Force’s HHx-60 Pavehawk aircraft series. Under his direction, the implementation of lean Six Sigma principles in maintaining the helicopters reduced the turnaround time from 240 days to an average of 114 days.Kunkle received the award at the annual Department of Defense Maintenance Symposium in Reno, Nevada.
