The Society of Women Engineers announced on Oct. 11 that Siddika Demir is the recipient of its 2006 Emerging Leaders Award for her leadership in quality assurance. Demir is the manager of corporate services and Six Sigma for Bechtel Corp. She is charged with setting Six Sigma strategy for the company and is responsible for the success of Six Sigma goals for five vice presidents. She also has oversight of 140 Six Sigma-trained individuals in Bechtel’s corporate services and serves as the lead Black Belt for the division, which has a staff of more than 350.
“Siddika Demir has shown extraordinary leadership in the industry of quality assurance,” says Jude Garzolini, SWE president. “Her leadership and commitment have driven significant savings for her organization.”
Prior to taking on her Six Sigma duties, Demir worked as a civil engineer for Bechtel. She received a degree in civil engineering from the University of Houston and a Master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University.
