The latest edition of “The ISO Survey of Certifications—2010,” from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) underlines the global market relevance of ISO’s management system standards for quality, environment, medical devices, food safety, and information security. The survey reveals an increase in certificates of 6.23 percent, representing a worldwide total of 1,457,912 certificates and users of one or more of the standards in 178 countries.

The biggest increases in certification are to the sector-specific ISO 22000 food safety management system standard, which is up by 34 percent; and to the issue-specific ISO/IEC 27001 information security management system standard, which has risen by 21 percent.
