The United States National Committee (USNC) to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) will host the 2010 IEC General Meeting in Seattle.The 10-day event, scheduled for Oct. 6–15, is expected to draw more than 1,500 delegates from around the globe for technical and policy discussions that will influence the electrotechnical community and its activities in international standardization. Meeting planners report that the opportunity to host the event in the United States allows the U.S. electrotechnical industry to reaffirm its commitment to international standardization, create opportunities for U.S. industry to participate in standards development, and raise awareness of IEC international standards to U.S. industry.
The planning committee has a fundraising goal of more than $2 million, and invites stakeholders to sponsor the meeting. Twenty-five organizations have already made financial commitments to bring the event to the United States.
