A new standard in the ISO 14000 series is expected to help users increase business support and confidence, while promoting their environmental credentials and performance.
ISO 14063: 2006, ”Environmental management—Environmental communication—Guidelines and examples,” will help organizations communicate their views and explain the environmental implications of their activities. It provides examples and suggestions for effective environmental communication, and includes insightful references to existing voluntary guidelines and approaches.
“The huge and ever-growing global interest in the environment means that communicating environmental performance is both relevant and important, requiring clear and transparent communication,” says W. Gary Wilson, chair of the working group that developed the standard. “The new standard has been designed to assist any organization in the development of an environmental communication, no matter how simple or complex.”
The standard was designed to be applicable to users in a variety of industries, and for organizations with or without registrations to ISO 14001. As a guidance document, ISO 14063 isn’t designed for certification purposes.
