The Standards Council of Canada recently expanded TÜV America Inc.’s accreditation to include SPE-1000-99, field evaluations and special inspections. The accreditation includes the following inspection services: custom-built equipment for special applications, equipment manufactured on a nonrepetitive basis, equipment sold in limited quantities, equipment not obtainable as “certified” under a regular certification program, equipment already installed and awaiting acceptance by regulatory authorities, and complete systems or subassemblies. Field inspection is a parallel program to traditional product certification and is most often performed on one-of-a-kind or custom-built equipment, or on equipment that has been moved to a new facility. “With the addition of field inspection services and the expansion of our SCC scope of accreditation, we have achieved our goal of expanding TÜV America’s Canadian services for 2005,” says Rafaat Ludin, TÜV America NAFTA field evaluation manager. “In the months and years to come, we will continue to add and to improve our certification services for TÜV’s valued Canadian customers.” TÜV America also performs field inspection services on unlisted and unlabeled equipment in the United States.
