(IAS: Whittier, CA) -- More than 60 countries are participating in World Accreditation Day on June 9, 2011, a worldwide initiative jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). The International Accreditation Service (IAS), a recognized accreditation body and signatory member of ILAC, endorses this initiative to raise awareness of how accreditation is used to support the work of regulators.

Accreditation is a formal, independent verification that a program, institution, or company meets established quality standards and is competent to carry out specific conformity assessment tasks. Accreditation has been used for more than 50 years as the definitive means of evaluating organizations and is now utilized by all the world’s major economies and many developing economies.
