I’ve now been continuously thinking about lean for 30 years, since the fall of 1979 when my bosses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) asked me to explore how a few Japanese companies had developed a striking advantage in designing and making motor vehicles. Deming addressed this issue in his Fourteen Points and Seven Deadly Sins. You cannot pick and chose which of those issues you wish to adopt and which you wish to edit, for the sake of short term accomplishment. What you have recognized is the absence of the development of profound knowledge for the sake of MBO.
