(ANSI: New York) -- As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthen America’s work force, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) helped sponsor the U.S. Department of Education’s (DOE) Sustainability Education Summit, which was held September 20–21, 2010. The summit’s goal was to articulate action steps for education, business and industry, government, and the environmental community to promote the transition to a sustainable green economy.

In his keynote address for the event, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan described the efforts at DOE and other federal agencies, and within the private sector, to prepare the next generation of workers for the challenges and opportunities taking shape as sustainability becomes an important element in employment.
“This announcement is the latest example of our work to support reform across states, districts, and neighborhoods across America,” said Duncan. “We call it the ‘Quiet Revolution.’ Work is taking hold in corporations, in other agencies of the federal government, as well as colleges, universities, and schools across the country.”
