(3D Engineering Solutions: Cincinnati) — Cincinnati-based 3D Engineering Solutions (3DES), an engineering and metrology services provider, recently provided long-range laser scanning and 3-D laser mapping services for a Fortune 100 utility company delivering electric power to more than 5 million customers in the Midwest. Using advanced long-range laser scanning technology, 3DES was able to develop a detailed 3-D map of the utility’s facility infrastructure that was targeted for retrofit. This method provided the utility with a streamlined solution to the traditional 2-D data collection process, which would have required dispatching engineering teams to remotely located facilities and resulted in incomplete information with subsequent site visits.

Specializing in advanced 3-D laser scanning, data collection, and CAD-modeling services, 3DES demonstrated the comprehensive, fast, and accurate detail delivered by long-range scanning, and was contracted by the utility to perform on-site 3-D laser mapping of more than 19 installations within a remote power facility.
