A couple of recent events have given me an opportunity to showcase a great American manufacturer.

First, the events:
1. The 2014 Massachusetts Advance Manufacturing Summit, held April 29, 2014, at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, featured keynote speaker Harry Moser, a national champion for reshoring manufacturing. Through his organization, The Reshoring Initiative, Moser has highlighted the fallacies of “low cost” offshore production and has created a new momentum to bring manufacturing back to the United States.
2. During May 5–6, 2014, as part of the Shingo Institute’s annual Shingo Conference, GBMP’s Shingo-certified instructors taught the Institute’s Discover Excellence course at Whirlpool’s Findlay Operations in Findlay, Ohio.

North America, but not America
While I absolutely agree with the author's theme that Lean Manufacturing is what will ulitimately bring manufacturing back to the USA, there is a somewhat incorrect message in the article. Whirlpool manufactures in North America and not just in America/USA. Whirlpool closed their Evansville, Indiana facility in 2010 and moved the operations from this facility to one in Mexico in 2010. This eliminated well over 1000 jobs in the USA.
Since the NAFTA Agreement finalized in 1993, Whirlpool has moved a large part of their operations to Mexico. With Whirlpool's acquisition of Maytag, this trend has continued.
I do salute and greatly admire the accomplishments by the people of the Ohio factory as featured in this article.
