(DMSC: Rochester, NY) -- The Digital Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) will be submitting a model-based characteristic (MBC) proposal to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as part of the American National Standard (ANS) approval process. DMSC will re-form its standards committee (SC) to document and approve a final MBC 1.0 standard proposal to ANSI.

The MBC standard defines nomenclature, definitions, symbols, data structures, and practices for identifying, communicating, and exchanging MBCs with various optional augmentations through a logical data model and supporting documentation.
Specifically, this standard provides a common approach for tagging and uniquely identifying product characteristics that interest the product realization process. Product characteristic tagging is primarily used to identify a list of characteristics required to verify and accept a product.
The DMSC is open to all parties with an interest in model-based characteristics. Membership isn’t a requirement, and it isn’t charged; however, you must specifically request to join.
The standards committee will review or revise the existing DMSC version of MBC, reformat the document to meet ANSI requirements, and vote to accept or reject the final proposed MBC 1.0 document. If approved, this final document will be submitted to ANSI for approval as an American national standard.
The final MBC proposal will be approved at an in-person meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. Central at the MxD facility in Chicago. This is the day before the 2025 MBE/QIF Summit at MxD. Committee members who aren’t attending the in-person meeting will have the opportunity to vote via email.
MBE/QIF Summit attendees are specifically encouraged to participate, come to Chicago a day early, and be part of the DMSC meeting.
