Rollomatic Inc. recently released the LS-Smart, a noncontact laser-based system that measures run-out and the diameter of surgical and medical cutting tools. The device was specifically designed to accommodate long, thin components with run-out issues. A double V-block system allows the user to choose two measuring points without having to use collets or clamps. Some medical drills can also be measured while inverted by supporting the cutting end of the rools in the V-blocks and measuring the resulting concentricity on the shank.
