The International Organization for Standardization recently introduced WorldSID, the world’s most advanced crash-test dummy, which will allow the automotive industry to improve vehicle design and increase passenger safety. WorldSID (World Side Impact Dummy) was developed to allow a single, universally accepted test device to be used worldwide for side-impact testing in any regulation. The design details of the dummy are included in ISO 15830:2005, a nearly 500-page document that includes 400 fabrication drawings and CAD files. It was designed by hundreds of engineers and scientists from more than 45 organizations in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. The accompanying standard was developed by ISO/TC 22.
