Six leading technology companies recently agreed to participate in a new program that will help create SAFE-BioPharma–enabled business applications, infrastructure, services and identity credentials for the pharmaceutical and health care industries. SAFE-BioPharma has developed and licensed a digital-signature standard that allows the secure, private exchange of information across existing systems. The SAFE Vendor Partner Program encourages the development of SAFE-enabled off-the-shelf software and applications for the pharmaceutical and health care industries. It’ll facilitate paperless transactions within the global health care industry and therefore significantly reduce the cost associated with medical research and drug development. Government and regulatory agencies that have agreed to adopt the SAFE standard include the National Cancer Institute, theFood and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency.
The first six companies to agree to participate in the SAFE Vendor Program are Adobe, Arcot Systems, CoreStreet, nCipher, IBM and Kyberpass.
