Northrop Grumman Corp. recently achieved its 25th Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) level 5 rating, the highest possible rating for benchmarking commercial and defense industry best practices for management and engineering. The rating was awarded after a comprehensive assessment of nine programs from five division locations. Northrop Grumman has now earned more level 5 ratings than any other defense or commercial company to date. It was achieved by Northrop Grumman’s Defense Mission Systems division, which is part of the company’s Mission Systems sector.

There are five levels of CMMI maturity, each being a layer in the foundation for ongoing process improvement. Higher maturity levels indicate lower risks to successful program execution.
