Peter R. Dolan, chief executive officer of Bristol-Myers Squibb, was recently elected chairman of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. Also elected were Kevin Sharer, Amgen president and CEO, as PhRMA board’s chairman-elect; and Karen Katen, Pfizer vice chairman, as PhRMA board’s treasurer. Dolan succeeds William C. Weldon, chairman and CEO of Johnson & Johnson, as PhRMA’s chairman.

Dolan has been CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb since 2001 and is the seventh CEO of the company since it was founded in 1887. He joined Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1988 in the over-the-counter products division, and has held various senior leadership positions in various businesses of the company.

“I look forward to further strengthening our partnership with patients and raising awareness of the vital importance of innovation to the future of medicine and health care in general,” says Dolan. “The research-based pharmaceutical industry is in a unique position to address some of the pressing issues in health care today.
