A new book defines quality using the fictional story of an eclectic group of characters trapped inside a train car during a snowstorm. Written as a business fable, On Track to Quality (Lighthouse Point Press, 2006) uses a casual narrative and character dialogue to examine and define the meaning of quality as it relates to manufacturing, education and health care. The author of the book, James K. Todd, is a professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and practices pediatric medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Denver. He’s published many articles on clinical medicine, and is credited for discovering toxic shock syndrome. His long career in varied complex organizations has allowed him to contemplate the concept of quality.
