Employees of Mercury Marine recently completed their 1,000th lean Six Sigma project.
Mercury Marine, a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of marine propulsion systems, began using Six Sigma and lean concepts in its manufacturing processes in 2003. Since then, it has trained almost 700 management and production employees in the methodologies, with dozens more attending training sessions every quarter. Past lean Six Sigma projects have improved everything from product design to manufacturing, including sales, planning, distribution and service. Mercury has worked with its suppliers to create a complete lean supply chain and is registered to ISO 9001.
“I am most proud that lean Six Sigma has become a way of doing business for Mercury Marine, providing the foundation for the continuous improvement which will drive our customer satisfaction,” says Patrick C. Mackey, Mercury Marine president.
