Trying to raise awareness of and promote standardization, the International Organization for Standardization recently introduced the ISO Award for Higher Education in Standardization to encourage a positive appreciation of and involvement in standardization among children—the future workforce.New technologies require more standardization than ever before. The globalization of trade and concern over environmental protection, security and health have led to increased demand on international standards.
“Knowledge of the economic, technical and social importance and benefits of standards is becoming imperative in the curricula of future managers, scientists and technologists,” says ISO secretary-general Alan Bryden.
ISO and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee, the organization’s member body in Japan, are sponsoring the award, which will be presented biennially.
