(Quality Digest: Louisville, KY) -- Real-time 3-D capture and comparison to a CAD model—on a moving part—generated some excitement at the CMSC show when Creaform demonstrated the capabilities of its HandyPROBE 3-D probing system running with Verisurf software.
The HandyPROBE is a wireless handheld probe that is tracked by a dual camera sensor using photogrammetry techniques. Using high-speed image processing the system can capture 30 points per second with a single-point accuracy of 25 mm (volumetric accuracy of 85 mm). Verisurf software interfaces with all types of CAD models and measuring devices in real-time, enabling manufacturers to seamlessly conduct part design, machining, and verification.
At a demonstration in Creaform’s booth, Verisurf owner and founder Ernie Husted demonstrated the combination by first capturing reference targets on a machined part. Husted then picked up the part in his left hand and the probe in his right and began measuring features while walking around the booth. Measurement data and deviation from nominal were displayed in real time on the monitor.
