<p> <span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Mike Mercer earned a Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Buffalo in 1967 and continued his Chem E education at the University of Minnesota.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">He joined 3M Company in 1973 as a process engineer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="font-size: small;">Working at different manufacturing locations he learned the necessity of approaching data with statistics.</span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span><span style="font-size: small;">He learned the practice of industrial statistics from classes at 3M and studying the works of Don Wheeler.</span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></span> <span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;">As a Deming disciple he adopted statistical thinking as a way of life.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="font-size: small;">Don Wheeler again became the source of inspiration with his book “Understanding Variation”, which inspired Mike to create the software tool BPChart.</span></span> </p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;">He formed his own consulting firm in 2008, and has helped clients with statistical analysis, test method evaluations, creating software training videos for Minitab and BPChart, writing Minitab macros and implementing ISO 9001 for small companies.</span> </p>
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;">He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and holds certifications as a Quality Engineer and as Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence.</span></p>
