EXPERIENCE
Senior Quality Engineer 2005-Present
3M Canada, London
• Co-invented a new on-line test method to predict the quality of the tape adhesive. This method can be used for the quality control of the adhesive in the shop floor. Implemented the new test method in two plants.
.
• Improved the Process Capability Index (Cpk) of Adhesion of the masking tape from 0.6 to 1.1 by optimizing the processes parameters using Design of Experiments (DoE). This produced $20,000 in annual savings by reducing the scrap due to poor adhesion.
• Developed a linear programming model for the tape converting process considering the demand, cycling rates of machines and the constraints of the equipment. This model has helped to identify the bottleneck machines for the investment of capital ($1.6 Million) and to quantify the necessary improvements in cycle times and in running efficiency to meet the targeted demands in throughput.
• Conducted time studies on operators and improved their operational efficiency by redistributing the operators and their tasks using lean manufacturing tools. This resulted in annual savings of $160,000.
• Provided statistical consultancy and training support to 3M Canada’s different divisions.
• Trained operators, supervisors and engineers in Adhesive and Tape Test methods.
Researcher 2000 - 2005
NSERC/Ford-NEMAK/University of Windsor Industrial Research Chair -
Light Metals Casting Technologies
• Optimized the preventive maintenance time of the electromagnetic pump at the Windsor Aluminum Plant (WAP) by reliability life distribution analysis. This has resulted in net savings of $250,000 per annum and the pump life has increased from 19000 castings to 43000 castings.
• Developed a method to assess the quality of the ingot suppliers for the Windsor Aluminum Plant (WAP) using Thermal Analysis. This has helped the WAP to resolve the quality issues with the ingot suppliers by controlling the alloy chemistry of the supplied ingots.
• By statistical analysis, identified the effect of Fe and Mn, on the bulkhead shrink porosity; Sn and Pb on the bulkhead hardness of the 3.0L V6 engine blocks that led to the revision of the specification limits of these elements.
• Performed Gage R&R studies of the Thermal Analysis Systems.
Quality Engineer 1997
Goodyear Limited, Aurangabad, India.
• Engineered the process control of the tread twin-screw extruder.
• Performed die-design and die-trials for the twin-screw extruder.
• Conducted quality inspections on extruded products.
