Born in 1929, H. James “Jim” Harrington was a phenomenal influence in the world of quality. And for many here at Quality Digest, he was a memorable, kind, and invested colleague as well—not to mention a wealth of knowledge, with seemingly endless energy and dedication to innovation in quality.

A life well-lived.
Few can hope to have a fraction of his positive effect in their career. RIP, sir.
Memories
In 2009, I had the pleasure of hearing Jim Harrington speak and the honor of meeting him at lunch. He was every bit on point in conversation as he was in a formal presentation. Embrace change… dare to seek a better way… don't fear to dream the impossible dream!
A Truly Role Model of World Quality Leader
I had the honor of knowing Jim and working with him since 2004 when we first met during the APQO Quality Conference in Vietnam. Then after, we had many mutual contributions to different quality events across the world and in all those events, I directly witnessed the sincere and great respect he always received from all quality professionals due to his generosity and sincere character. Jim's contribution to expanding Quality Body of Knowledge is obviously unique. He has introduced many new concepts not only in theoretical domain of quality but in quality practice as well. Whatever Jim left behind is an invaluable treasure to the world quality heritage established by the quality gurus like Deming, Juran, Ishikawa, Crosby, Feigenbaum and few others. In addition to all well-deserved recognitions and awards he received, he may be known as a role model for world quality leadership. As part of world quality history, he will be remembered by world quality community for all future.
I will miss Dr. Harrington
I had the privilege of meeting Jim, and I am sorry to learn he is gone.
