The arrival of daylight saving time (DST) marks the official arrival of spring, at least in my mind. And notice I said saving time, not savings time. Evidently over the years this event has taken on a different identity with the addition of an “s.” And frankly until recently I always opted for the plural. It’s a joyous time of the year, no matter how you pronounce it.

Moving the clock forward one hour moves daylight from the morning to the evening, much to the delight of sports enthusiasts, children, boaters, and of course golfers. However, it is not always favored by parents, drive-in movie owners, some farmers, and clock store owners.
Children enjoy the extra hour of daylight for outside activities but parents with very young children consider it a burden trying to get youngsters to sleep while the sun is still out. Some have even opted for room darkening blinds to hide the daylight. On the other hand, and much to the delight of golfers, that last putt on the 18th hole can now be attempted after 9 p.m.
