Ever since people began handing down information from person to person and parent to child, there has been something called tribal knowledge. Most people can point to a specific skill they have or knowledge they possess that was transferred to them by an elder. This elder may have been a relative, a community member, a teacher, or a co-worker. I certainly rely regularly on wisdom and skills I gained from all of the above.

Tribal Knowledge
It is important to be careful about storig tribal knowledge. Tribal knowledge can be nothing more than one person's opinion. More important than collecting this "wisdom" is validating it and incorporating it into standards that are 1)the core of everyone's work and 2)can be passed on through training.
