Fifty years ago President John Kennedy delivered one of the most memorable inauguration speeches since President Lincoln. Kennedy’s words still resonate after all these years when he stated, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” After the Lincoln address, Kennedy’s address has to be the most memorized/recited speech by school children in our history. Those of us who watched the speech live still recall how it invigorated and inspired us. His words are forever etched in the lexicon of our nation.

Kennedy’s short term in office was often compared to a play that was on Broadway at the time, namely, the award winning epic, Camelot. The gist of the story is that King Arthur wants to create a new kind of knight—one who does not pillage and fight, but one who attempts to foster honor and justice. One could argue that Kennedy embraced these same tenets. In any event, the media equated his presidency in a similar vein to the glamorous characters in Camelot.

If I Were King
Bill,
Another excellent article! If I were king, I would vote for you.... wait a minute, I wouldn't have a vote.

Jim - thanks for the vote! And don't forget the Lions in the Super Bowl next year!

Cap of $1 billion??
Bill, Shame on you for suggesting limiting earnings. If we as a society are stupid enough to pay thuggish athletes and greasy investors and drug-and-sex-addled actors millions, let it be. If >I< were to make a billion a year, you can bet I would do a whole lotta good, and I shouldn't have to give the 'fed-ral gummint' 85%!!! Why, I might even hire you to do something innovative. I never suspected there were socialist thoughts in that otherwise level head....LOL
As far as the Lions, OK. We could find a suitable high school team so they would most likely win...maybe the Junior Varsity should dress out, just in case...
As for the CEO show, right on the mark. Any CEO not already known to his troops is not worth the paper he should get his pink slip on!

Chuck - yes, I would hope that you would do some good with the billion you earned each year - and I know you would! And I would too! Guess hearing that some guy made $5 billion irritated me. Isn't there a point at which when you make more than the GNP of Greenland there should be some monitors?
And the Detroit Lions are ready to make a move on the Packers and the Bears. This will be our year!
And finally, Undercover Boss is a joke! Shame on those bosses for not traveling to meet staff!
Thanks for writing. Now I think I will go outside into our balmy Michigan weather - it will be 34 today and by the end of next week - 54. Where are my golf clubs?
Have a great weekend and keep writing. Someone needs to jar me into reality every now and then!

If Bill Were King
